Breaking Down the Layers
The Brooklyn Spartan is 13.5 inches thick and is made up of five layers of state-of-the-art foams and coils, excluding the cover.
First Layer:
A 1.5-Inch Energex Cooling Foam. The first layer below the cover is the patented Copper-Gel Energex™ Cooling foam. This 1.5-inch proprietary foam is an excellent alternative to latex foam, which functions as a comfort layer.
This layer has a superb pressure response which makes it bouncy rather than having that sinking feeling. The copper-gel component works as a cooling topper too.
Second Layer:
A 2-inch TitanFlex Foam. The next layer is the 2-inch Hyper-Elastic TitanFlex foam that’s added to not just give extra comfort but also to provide support. It also demonstrates great bounce and quick pressure response.
Third Layer:
A 1-inch Gel Memory Foam. The third layer is made up of visco-elastic gel memory foam. Memory foams are known to allow your body to sink into the mattress, offering comfort.
It’s also intentionally placed in the middle to lessen the motion transfer from the coils. This strategic positioning also helps prevent overheating or warming coming from the memory foam.
Fourth Layer:
An 8-inch Quantum Edge Pocketed Coils. Beneath the 3 layers of foam is the 8-inch Quantum Edge pocketed coils. The coils add bounce to the mattress, which most people prefer. The coils are also individually encased in fabric unlike conventional innerspring beds, this results in great motion isolation.
Fifth Layer:
A 1-inch Support Foam. This is a dense polyfoam found at the bottom of the Spartan. As its name indicates, this layer functions as the foundation of the mattress, carrying and supporting the innerspring coils.

How Does It Perform
The composition of the Spartan mattress and each layer it has is instrumental to its overall performance.
The Spartan mattress performs well when it comes to comfort and support. What I specifically like about it is that I feel relaxed and relieved, regardless of what position I sleep in.
Although I sink a little bit, more evidently when I sleep on my side, it didn’t seem that I was stuck. The motion isolation is pretty noticeable as well, so it is a good choice if you sleep with someone.
What’s more, it does not sleep hot, but it didn’t significantly adjust the temperature or make it cooler during hot days either. Although I’ve read some reviews saying the Spartan sleeps hot, I guess it would also depend on what type of sleeper you are including your weight and body type.

This Spartan mattress has several foam layers so you can expect absolute comfort when you lie down on the mattress. Plus, it helps relieve pressure. The softer the firmness, the more it hugs the body, providing a cradling comfort that might be important for some sleepers.
Firmness
There are three firmness options available: Soft, Medium, and Firm. On a firmness scale, the soft is about a 4 out of 10; the medium is a 6 out of 10, and the firm is a 7 out of 10. You can pick one that matches your preference. However, for all-around sleepers, I recommend going for the medium-firm option.
Smell or Off-Gassing
When you buy a mattress with foam layers, a bit of off-gassing is expected. There is a slight odor when you first open the Spartan mattress from the box. Just air it out within a day or two and you should be ready to use the mattress.
Bounciness

The Final Verdict
Overall, I enjoyed sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Spartan Mattress. I personally chose the medium comfort level, and I can say it can provide the same good experience to all sorts of sleepers.
The quality of the materials of the Spartan mattress is quite conspicuous, and on top of that, I think I am starting to see the benefits of special technology in each layer as well as the cover.
Although there was slight sinkage, I still recommend this because of its premium structure, remarkable motion isolation, and I appreciate they offer various comfort levels to accommodate any type of sleeper.
